Dynamic Conversations: Responsible Leadership with Barbara Stengel

Dynamic Conversations is an online series from the Boston College Formative Leadership Education Project. It is made possible by the generous support of the Kern Family Foundation. Join us for a dynamic conversation on Loving Attention in Relation and Response: Grounding Responsible Leadership in (Seemingly) Precarious Times with Barbara Stengel.

Barbara Stengel is Professor Emerita in the Practice of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt University. Former President of the Philosophy of Education Society, Dr. Stengel is current President of the John Dewey Society. As a scholar and teacher educator, she is known for her ability to to illuminate the moral, affective, and epistemological dimensions of teaching and learning with a practitioner’s groundedness and philosopher’s depth.

Dr. Stengel is the author of numerous articles and four books, most recently Responsibility (Bloomsbury, 2023). She is also the host of Chasing Bailey, a podcast about a group of teachers, leaders, and others who dedicated themselves to changing the fortunes of a failing middle school in Nashville TN from 2012 to 2016. Ahead of the conversation, you may like to check out her paper, “Practicing Courage in a Communal Key” and listen to her guest appearance on a podcast episode of Thinking In The Midst: On Responsibility.
